WHY IT EXISTS

Nothing is applied because it can be.

A long list of settings that can be changed is not the same as a short list that should be. Niceshot looks at what the machine is first, changes what will actually help it, and leaves the rest alone, however often the rest is recommended elsewhere.

  • Changes that pay for themselves

    A setting earns its place by making the machine better to use. Where that cannot be shown, it stays out.

  • Performance is not one number

    Responsiveness and stability are part of the same result as speed. A machine that is quicker at the cost of being less reliable has not been improved.

  • Different machines, different answers

    Hardware varies enough that the right set of changes on one PC is often the wrong set on the next, so Niceshot works it out per machine.

HARDWARE AWARE

Niceshot reads the machine before it changes anything.


What is worth changing depends on what the machine is made of. Niceshot checks the system it is running on first, applies what is relevant to that system, and leaves the rest out rather than applying everything and hoping.

  • It checks first

    The system and its hardware are read before anything is applied, so the changes are chosen for that machine rather than for an average of all of them.

  • Irrelevant changes are left out

    Where an optimisation does not apply to the hardware that is present, it is not offered as though it did.

  • Unsupported is not hidden

    Where something cannot be applied on the machine in front of it, the app says so rather than reporting a result it did not get.

    Each page shows whether it is optimised and what the machine is currently set to, rather than reporting a job done and leaving it there.

  2. Your preferences stay yours

    Where a change is a matter of taste rather than of performance, it is offered as a choice instead of being applied for you.

  3. Changes can be put back

    The original setting is captured before anything is written, so the changes made in a session can be restored.

  4. You are told when to restart

    Some changes only take effect after a restart. Niceshot says so at the time rather than leaving you to work it out.

FAQ

Questions worth asking first.


Does Niceshot apply every optimisation it has?

No. What is applied depends on the machine it is running on and on what is worth changing. Where an optimisation does not apply to the hardware present, it is not applied, and it is not presented as though every machine needs it.

Does it need administrator access?

Yes. It changes protected Windows settings, so it asks for elevation and you see a UAC prompt each time it starts.

Which versions of Windows does it support?

Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit.

Can I undo what Niceshot changes?

Yes. Niceshot captures the original setting before it writes, so the changes made during the current session can be put back. The Restore page keeps a record of them.

Does Niceshot benchmark my PC or show a frame rate?

No. It changes settings, checks that the machine took them, and reports what changed. It does not benchmark, measure frame rate or latency, or quote a performance figure.
